History and Info

What's Our History?

Alpha Baptist Church started to worship and serve together 125 years ago. Our roots as a church go back further, to a congregation that was formed in the mid 1800's by early settlers in Oxford Township, Illinois, southwest of the village of Alpha. That church split and a second congregation was formed in 1852, but the two congregations reconciled in 1856. The church we now know as Alpha Baptist Church was officially founded in 1874. Our church shared a pastor with First Baptist Church of Orion, Illinois until 1960, when each congregation decided to call their own pastor, at which time our parsonage was built. We celebrated the 100th anniversary of our church building in 1995.

What's Our Identity?

We are part of the American Baptist Churches, U.S.A., in the Great Rivers Region. We are committed to working closely with the other churches in Alpha and the surrounding area in evangelism, special services and community outreach.

What Do We Believe?

We are an evangelical, Bible-based, New Testament church. We believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and our hope for salvation and eternal life. We believe in the triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God. We believe that all people are loved totally and infinitely by God, and that God has placed us here to share that love, by our words and by our actions.

What Are We Like?

Like we said, we're a small church, but we have a BIG HEART! Our services--before, during and after--are filled with hugs, smiles and laughter. We love to sing, and there are many people in our congregation who have musical talent. There is a feeling of love, warmth and family when we get together, whether it's for a Sunday service or for a Saturday morning breakfast. We have Sunday school classes for all ages, an active youth group and a weekly Bible study.

Our pastor, Andy Busch, has been with us since February, 1995. He is a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin (and yes, a hopeless Packer fan). He also serves as a chaplain at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island, Illinois. He is married to Kim, and they have six children: Dave, Pete, Jeanie, Danny, Christopher and Sean. Pastor Andy shares the message of God's love through positive, uplifting sermons, music and humor (or at least he tries).
